The world will desperately need software engineers.

In five years, you won’t become redundant, despite the predictions floating around. Ever since ChatGPT was launched, and along came a plethora of code assistant platforms, experts claimed that AI would make programming jobs obsolete, suggesting that everyone will become a coder. While that may be true to some extent, not everyone will end up as a software engineer.

  • Predictions about AI making programming jobs obsolete have circulated since the launch of ChatGPT and other code assistant platforms.

  • François Chollet predicts an increase in the number of professional software engineers in five years, estimating a jump from 26 million to 30-35 million.

  • Devin by Cognition Labs is gaining attention as the first AI software engineer, sparking debates about the future of programming jobs and even being likened to AGI.

  • Despite advancements, AI tools like Devin can't fully replace human intelligence or jobs; they can only augment them.

  • VJ's Insights emphasizes that writing code is just one aspect of a software engineer's responsibilities and advises a shift in mindset for those solely focused on coding.

As Jim Fan aptly posted, Jensen Huang is the new Taylor Swift.

According to one tech commentator on X, "Guys who worship Jensen Huang are male Swifties." The Nvidia CEO seems to have gotten the memo.

During his much-awaited introductory speech at Nvidia's GPU Technology Conference (GTC) in California on Monday, Huang said:

"As I was simulating how this keynote was going to turn out, somebody did say that another performer did her performance completely on a treadmill so that she could be in shape to deliver it with full energy. I didn't do that. If I get a low wind at about 10 minutes into this, you know what happened."

But Huang, who has helped drive Nvidia's share price up more than 240% in the last year as companies scramble to buy its powerful semiconductors to help drive their AI ambitions, didn't just make Swift jokes. He unveiled the company's next-generation AI chip, named Blackwell, the successor to its massively in-demand H100.
